ICT STRATEGY
Driving the business to exploit ICT

Maximising return on investment from an ICT project involves a lot more than loading new applications and switching them on. The most benefit comes from putting the business in the driving seat of a business transformation project with ICT acting as an enabler.

But how can you get the business to see it in that way when the project deliverables are couched in terms such as CRM, EDMS and workflow?

Hackney Homes shares its experience of making sure the business and users are at the forefront of their new technology project to ensure the maximum efficiencies and savings are achieved as a result.

Trish Haill, Head of ICT Services, Hackney Homes
Public Sector Budget Cuts and ICT

The public sector including policing are required to make significant cuts in expenditure, especially with regard to back office costs. This presentation will focus specifically upon:
  • The size of the challenge
  • How forces might reduce the cost of ICT
  • How forces might reduce organisational costs through the use of ICT, especially mobile data
  • What the opportunities are for outsourcing

14:10

Driving Operational Efficiencies and Business Value through Workforce Management and Optimisation

With the ever increasing demand for Public Sector organisations to provide improved services while achieving operational efficiencies, and the impending focus for even greater operational cost reduction from the newly elected Government, it’s never been more important to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the workforce. In this session you will have the opportunity to discover the significant cost savings that can be made without impacting customer service through:
  • Automatic generation of shift working rotas and scheduling of appointments and tasks to field personnel, while taking into consideration, personnel available, skills required and resources utilised, across departmental or business functions e.g. Public Security, Customer Contact Centres, Adult & Children Service, Library Services, Motorway Patrols and Transportation services, Street & Housing maintenance, Welfare, Tax & Customs inspections.

Contemporary assisted living solutions developed under the Technology Strategy Board Assisted Living Innovation Platform
  • User centric designed home based solutions
  • Robust and affordable mobile solutions
  • Informal carer network support
Traditionally, assisted living technology has been foisted on users. It can be poorly designed and act as its own barrier to adoption by being a 'badge of infirmity'. Some new approaches have been encouraged by the TSB.

Great emphasis has been placed on making people secure in their own homes but does this trap them, making them afraid to venture out for fear of losing their support? Some TSB activities that aim to set users free will be discussed in this session.

Informal care is estimated to contribute around £90 billion annually to the care of frail and vulnerable people. How can we lock in that contribution and grow it?

Richard Foggie, Assistant Director, Electronics Innovation, BIS
